Free forever · No card required

Free screenwriting software.
Actually free.

Unlimited pages. Industry-standard formatting. Clean, watermark-free PDF export. Final Draft import and export. Cloud backup on every draft. No trial clock, ever.

No page limit. Not 20 pages, not 120 — none.
What free includes

Everything a writer needs. Nothing held hostage.

The whole writing workflow is free — not a teaser tier. These aren't trial features; they never expire.

Unlimited pages

Write a short, a pilot, a feature, a trilogy. There is no page cap and no project-size meter counting against you.

Industry-standard formatting

Scene headings, action, character, dialogue, parentheticals, transitions, dual dialogue — Tab and Enter do what Final Draft taught you.

Clean PDF export

Title page included, correct screenplay pagination, and no watermark — a PDF you can send to a contest, a professor, or an actor.

Final Draft & Fountain, in and out

Import .fdx, .fountain, .txt, or PDF. Export .fdx and Fountain any time. Your script is never locked into our format.

Cloud backup

Every draft backs up to the cloud automatically and follows you to any device. Clearing your browser will never eat your screenplay.

Private notes

Pin notes to any line while you draft — reminders, alternates, research. They stay out of the export and out of your way.

The part nobody else has

Your script doesn't dead-end in a PDF.

FilmDocs.App is a full production suite. The screenplay you write here is already the seed for every piece of paperwork your shoot will need.

Your script
Breakdown
Stripboard
Call sheets
Sides, on set

Scene headings, characters, and page counts flow straight into the breakdown, schedule, and call sheets. When your film gets greenlit, you're not starting over — you're already in prep.

Straight answer

So what's the catch?

There isn't one — there's a business model, and it isn't you. Writing is free; production is what's paid.

FAQ

Fair questions.

Is it really free, or free-for-90-days free?
Really free. The free plan is permanent — no trial clock, no card on file, no "your script is now read-only" email. You sign up with an email so your screenplay can back up to the cloud, and that's the whole transaction.
Can I bring my Final Draft scripts over?
Yes — import .fdx directly, and .fountain, .txt, or PDF too. Elements are auto-detected (scene headings, characters, dialogue). And export back to .fdx whenever you like: the door swings both ways, free.
Will my exported PDF have branding on it?
No watermark across your pages. There's a small "FilmDocs.App" credit in the page footer — the same courtesy line other free writing tools use. Paid Pro and Crew plans replace it with your own production company's branding.
What happens when my script goes into production?
That's the moment FilmDocs.App gets interesting. Upgrade and your script locks with anchored scene numbers, revisions go out as colored pages, and the breakdown, stripboard, call sheets, and on-set sides all build from what you already wrote. See pricing — the first month is on us.
